Mountain knapweed

Mountain knapweed Centaurea montana is a rough, tough plant that thrives on neglect in our difficult clay soil and always provides a welcome show of flowers in May. These are very attractive to a range of pollinators. I always cut it back hard once thre first flush of flowers is over, and it responds by flowering again in August and September, when or garden needs an injection of colour.

This was the only image I took today, as we mostly had heavy rain and grey clouds, with just a short burst of evening sunshine. I had a dental appointment this morning, where everything was fine, and then spent most of the afternoon writing a report at my newly adapted standing desk - better for my back than a chair, but a bit tiring, though I'm sure I'll get used to it..
