Ffeminist
This photo wasn't meant to be anything other than a play around with my SB900 and the honeycomb and snoot attachments. I just let intuition lead the processing, although I didn't have this effect in mind when I shot it.
I honestly wasn't setting out to make any political statement either but I guess I see the political in everything, however innocuous it may be at first sight. This is an old campaign hoodie from my NUS days. I wasn't actually all that involved with the women's movement at the time but was persuaded into wearing this. I had bad associations with the word 'feminist' at the time, as many do, but out of solidarity bought the hoodie. In fact that was the aim of the campaign in many ways, to rebrand feminism.
It isn't about being radical, hating men, burning bras or chaining yourself to railings (unless you really wish to), but to me feminism is about seeking equality for men and women, equal rights, equal pay, the freedom to go about life as you wish without fear of sexual harassment, discrimination or being forced into gender roles that aren't relevant in a modern society. Equality for women brings benefits for men too. And men can also be feminists!
