Plant Day
There is a 20 year tradition associated with the Friday before Mother's Day. My friend Debra and I go to Massachusetts to a greenhouse that her father-in-law used to buy his tomato plants from. There is a new generation of family members running the greenhouse now and we are the new generation buying. They have the best tomato plants- in individual 6" pots and we usually have tomatoes by July 4th which for this area is a great accomplishment. Of course they have lots of other stuff too. We travel in separate cars so we can get all we need. They will be closed by Monday - Sold Out. We are usually in line by 9 a.m. Debra's husband by 7 a.m. There is breakfast involved and Debra's two sisters-in-law and even a daughter of one of the sisters. So now we will keep them in the yard since we can't plant before end of May. It will require taking them in and out on those nights that might have a frost, but they will be lovingly cared for until harvest. And, hoping this will fit into the May sisters Metallic challenge for today too.
