Odd Collections 10: Iconic Transport in HK/USA

The collections are back even if only a niche one. Let me say first that I am not interested in transport per se although there will be more transport to follow in the next couple of weeks. I like what they represent and what remind me off. not the vehicles themselves. So for me I think warmly of both Hong Kong and USA when I see these vehicles on my shelves.

So from left to right as you look:

HK taxis. The two small cars are the shapes of the two taxis allowed in HK. The red ones can operate throughout HK and the green ones only in the New Territories. Drivers are normally Chinese and many have only limited English. But they are cheap, efficient and reliable.

HK tram: these delightful old trams only operate on Hong Kong Island. They are extremely narrow and cost a standard and very cheap rate. They are useful for tourists and are quaint and worth going on just for the experience.

Public Light Bus: Behind the tram are the public light buses. They are numerous, rickety and used by the locals to get around.

MTR: front middle is the underground train known as the MTR. The underground system is efficient, clean, reliable and you can use your phone whilst travelling. Apparently when it was being constructed they put the capacity for mobile phone use in the walls even before the technology was developed. Mobiles are in constant use on this busy and very safe mode of transport.

NewYork School Bus: the unmistakable figure of a US school bus. It is an offence to overtake when it is off loading kids and they are a common site.

New York Tour Bus: I spent many hours on such a bus recently enjoying the delights of travelling around this great city.

New York Taxi: again the iconic taxi such a common feature of the New York landscape.

So that's my Friday blip. Hope you enjoy.

Thank you so much for your caring voices last night I was tired. I have yet another UTI so back on the antibiotics and the cold is still a nuisance. So I took all your advice and only went into work for five hours! When I got home tonight I had an email to say we had not won the contract I went to London for yesterday so I could have avoided that trip! So at least the week is ended.

Tonight off for a meal with my son J and two of his friends who I have known since they were young and they have promised me a meal for my birthday. That's really nice so it's a good way to end the week.

Have a good weekend all!
