Moorhen chick

For the first time this holiday we head inland, to Wallington, a National Trust estate and house. The river walk and woods are peaceful and vibrant with spring. The Walled Garden formally laid out, but in a relaxed inviting way. And yes the chocolate cake at the café was very tasty.
The previous owners include Charles Trevelyan, an aristocrat and Labour MP in the 1930s, expelled from the Party for being too socialist. I wonder what he would think of the Party nowadays.
According to information about the estate, we might have seen red squirrels today, or otters. We were hoping to glimpse a dipper. Instead we enjoyed the sight of six black fluffy moorhen chicks being fed by their parents. More common than the advertised wildlife, fittingly given Trevelyan’s political beliefs, but still a special moment.
The one in the photo is waiting its turn patiently.
