Marigold

Marigold - Calendula Officinalis

This is an “Old English Marigold”.

It’s more common these days to see gardens full of French Marigolds which are much more showy than this one. I planted French ones in the vegetable plot just a few days ago. Igor found this English one at the edge of our driveway growing as a weed. I picked it this morning as a very sorry and bedraggled looking specimen with its head bowed against the heavy rain. I left it in a small pot of water and got on with my busy day. When I returned to blip it there it was happy and smiling and looking much more pleased with itself. I love its simplicity and am now going to find some to plant in the vegetable bed. I think they will definitely give the showy old French ones a run for their money.
