Winter Fuel
There's a beautiful line in "Wandering" - Herman Hesse's collection of lyrical essays - which I often think of when in the wood store.
" ..... and every young farmboy knows that the hardest and noblest wood has the narrowest rings, that high on the mountains and in continuing danger the most indestructible, the strongest, the ideal trees grow."
Early this afternoon I employed my wood splitter to good effect to help fill the log basket with fuel for the evening.
There's nothing like a fire in winter to warm cockles of the heart and soul!
