Newbridge Park Woods
Out in the woods this afternoon preparing for our weekly orienteering club. The ownership has transferred to a group of local enthusiasts who have developed some bike trails through the old quarry and woodland. They are also trying to encourage more native species to re-establish themselves.
I was amazed to see such a variety of plants establishing themselves on a small rocky knoll in a part of the wood that was originally targeted for holiday chalets. Fortunately the poor road access put paid to those plans and gradually the area has been taken over by nature.
I am afraid I do not know the name of this unusually shaped flower. It was nestled amongst wild strawberry plants and cowslips.
