Momento of a Holiday
In 2000 we were lucky enough to have a couple of weeks holiday, driving from Seattle to Oregon where we stayed with a friend for 3-4 days.
On route we visited the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, the area devastated by the volcanic eruption on May 18th 1980. This was triggered by a 5.1 earthquake. The summit of Mt. St. Helens was left 1314 ft lower and an area of 25 sq miles was covered in debris an average depth of 150ft. The landslide was the largest in recorded history; 36 people are known to have lost their lives, 21 were reported missing.
This little bear is made from ash from the volcano, and was cast and hand carved and has a "soapstone-like" texture.
