Guatape

We took the bus to Guatape today - it´s 1.5 hours from medellin through the beautiful antioquian countryside. There is a huge rock formation called la Piedra which we climbed up using 750 steps carved around the rock. This picture is of us 4 at the top where the views are beautiful and we had a picnic! Although the views are incredible there is a story behind the huge lake under la Piedra. The lake was created when the biggest dam in Colombia was built and flooded the área including small towns. The dam currently provides 30% of Colombia´s electricity. After descending la Piedra we went into the town of Guatape. guatape is a beautiful colonial style town with a big central square and colourful houses with painted tiles.
