Fundraising in Clonmel

RENOWNED pianist and composer and Professor of Music at the Irish World Music Centre at the University of Limerick, Micheál Ó Súilleabháin,(In the picture) returned to his native Clonmel, Co. Tipperary to perform at a fund-raising concert that will make a real difference to thousands of people in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Hers he performs on Saturday, June 2, in one of Clonmel?s most beautiful and atmospheric venues, the 12th-century Old Mary?s Church of Ireland, to raise funds for a life-changing project, run by Wells for Zoe, to bring clean water to hundreds of communities in Mzuzu, Northern Malawi.

Among the performers joining him on the night will be African musician Tunde Jegede; the Carolan String Quartet; and size2shoes, a duo made up of his two sons, Eoin and Micheál.

The concert is being organised by the Rotary Club of Clonmel with the aim of raising ?20,000 for a project to provide a factory to make water pumps in Malawi. This will then be matched by another ?20,000 from the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of the international Rotary network, providing a total of ?40,000 to equip the facility
