BETRAYED – NAHR EL BARED CAMP

We visited Nahr el Bared camp in the north of Lebanon.  Over 27000 refugees were forced to abandon their home with the destruction of the camp in 2007.   UNRWA are reconstructing the camp, but it goes very slow and too slow because of lack of funding.

1321 families have returned to live in new homes,  the remaining 3556 families continue to live in temporary shelter, most of them in very poor conditions. Some actually live in containers.

The people feel betrayed by the world society that doesn’t contribute with donations to UNRWA, UNRWA administration and Lebanon.  We visit families and walked around in the camp to see the massive destructions and the conditions that is not worthy human being.

But we were met with smiles and friendliness wherever we walked. This is one of the school buses.
