Coot chick

I went back to Blackford Pond this afternoon to catch up on the bird life. There is another coot family now with four chicks, younger than the other family I've been following - the chicks have probably hatched since Saturday when I was last there. I hope they will all survive - the other family lost a chick between my first and second visits this spring. This family has its nest in amongst the branches and twigs of a tree so there is more protection around the nest.
