Magnificent Ageing.
A friend of mine from Brighton, Penelope Young, had spent many months researching and writing a book which she had called "Magnificent Ageing." Her view was that there are three main elements to the ageing process: There is our chronological age, our physical age (how we present physically and mentally) and then there is our emotional age. She said it was surprising how many senior leaders often described their emotional age as still being in their early 30s. She had managed to interview many well known people for her book who were either mentally or physically impressive including Dame Vera Lynn. She felt strongly that people didn't need to resort to cosmetic surgery in order to remain attractive. Sadly, my friend died very suddenly last year, in her mid 60s causing shock waves in the community.
This blip is accompanied by a photo of my mother-in-law who, believe it or not is 87. I think she would certainly have been a candidate for Penny's book if it had ever been published.
