Another Two Cubic Metres of Concrete
I have not done much today, except for making coffee for myself and the builders. During the excavation work yesterday, they came across our water pipe, which was obviously at the end of its life, being an iron pipe and very rusty. Since they were about to install another two cubic metres, or nearly five tons of concrete, it did not seem a good idea to leave this pipe to fail almost immediately, so it became necessary for them to replace the pipe before the finishing concrete is laid, although the concrete in this picture was poured early this morning, making work on the pipe more difficult than it might otherwise have been. This picture is of the foundation concrete taken immediately after the completion of the pipe replacement. Now that this concrete is in position, there is little chance of the material under the concrete raft carrying the kitchen moving and the raft failing in any way.
