The Arab House

When the first settlers arrived to the area that became the kibbutz, they all lived in this house. When I arrived to the kibbutz, in September 1989, it had been used as the pub/disco for the volunteers, but my first night there was the last night it would be open as it had been deemed too dangerous to enter anymore.

Shacks had been built around it for the early settlers to live in and they had become the sleeping quarters for the volunteers. Now the area has been revamped and new, posh, large dwellings have been built and finally the Arab house will be restored to it's former glory. There was already a small display of photographs and information boards about the early days set up on the other side of the building, so hopefully once the restoration is complete, it can be used as a small museum, documenting the beginnings of the kibbutz.

Meanwhile, the sun made a brief appearance today and it's warm enough for sun tops and shorts, but this evening there has been thunder and the threat of rain, which is unheard of in May here. I'm thinking of asking for a refund on my ticket!! ( But don't worry, it's not spoiling my enjoyment of being here, it's just great to hang out with friends, like I've never been away ).
