The Creature from the Depths of the Forest

Today we followed the Queen Tree Walk near Huntly. It was GREAT and the dogs had a lot of fun. The Bin Forest is a very old planted forest, begun in the 1840s with fir tree seeds brought back from North America. It features an inspiring range of mixed woodland and felt really rather magical. Which was why when I saw this creature rearing up from just off the path I did a double-take. A giant Stag Beetle? A dinosaur? No, an uprooted tree. Ah well.
