Dalkeith House
This shows the side view of Dalkeith House or Palace southeast of Edinburgh. The house was rebuilt over 300 years ago incorporating parts of Dalkeith Castle and modelled on William of Orange’s palace in Holland. It was referred to as "the grandest of all early classical houses in Scotland," and several royal visitors stayed including Bonnie Prince Charlie, George IV and Queen Victoria. Although it belongs to the Duke of Buccleuch the family have not lived there since 1914 and it is now leased to the University of Wisconsin as part of their study abroad programme.
Dalkeith Park is a most enjoyable place in which to walk and explore the parkland and woods which now are ablaze with bluebells and other wild flowers.
