Wild And Wonderful

I honestly thought it was a piece of plastic or fabric from a kite when I saw this wild orchid at a great distance this afternoon! As we walked closer we realised what it was but the vibrancy of the colour was outstanding! It was the only plant of its kind on the whole common-we spent the rest of the walk scouring every inch to find more :-) but no luck, just the one.


It is the first of the wild orchids to flower. Early purple Orchid(Orchis Mascula) is apparently quite widespread throughout the UK and Ireland but nevertheless I was surprised to see that it hadn't been picked by children, possibly their mums had said to leave it-hopefully.


When I return in a few days I may take a close up to blip, let's hope it remains ;-)
