Standing Timbers!
Four of us were walking today down in the south of Scotland at Douglas, a development walk for the club. The village of Douglas itself is interesting, with a memorial to a covenanter, the ancient St. Bryde's Church, and a memorial to the free Polish soldiers who were billited here during the war. There is also a memorial just outside the village to the Cameronians, one of the disbanded Scottish regiments.
We passed Douglas Castle, also known as Castle Dangerous, which was used in the Sir Walter Scott's novel of the same name.
It was a lovely eight mile walk and we had good weather all the way, a little mud at times, but that is expected in Scotland at this time of the year, in fact at any time of the year.
Finished up in a nice wee coffee shop in Douglas for a wee snack before driving home.
Part of our walk went along an old disused railway line and there was a very old timber fence running along the side of it. It was quite fascinating, just left to the elements, and some of it had to my mind become like a timber sculpture, so that's my blip for the day.
