One corner

of an aquataince of ours fields. They, that is his wife and he, were farmers, then they inherited two mor adjoing farms from his Father and Uncle. He sold up his cattle and such, grassed most of his fields, leased out others and took in old and unwanted horses and ponies ( and 5 donkeys). He got the horses from local Abbatoirs and answering adverts in local papers. The ponies are mainly from girls who have grown to big for them, the horses are too old or are ex Trotters and no longer competitive.
None are ridden,few are shoed, they are checked monthly by a Vet, who wanders around the pastures casually watching them, and they are left to enjoy life outside where they belong. In winter they can shelter in Dutch Barns and if the weather is really severe then in Barns on the farmhouse. It is so nice to see These large herds of horses grazing and acting as they should. Last time I saw him and talked ( last autumn) he had 83 animals, (you can count 19 in this photo) must go for a coffee with them again soon.See how many they have now...
