Stalwarts!

St George's Day.....a very celebrated saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church....and patron saint of England though we seldom see him celebrated in the way the Irish, Welsh and Scots celebrate their saints! Room for improvement I think!

Neither of these is St George!!!!

.....but its probably a good time to remember the stalwarts closer to home (not saints in the world's eyes per se) but without whom this thriving economy we live in, would not survive long!

The shwarma man.....he has to be an all time favourite....working under real pressure when ravenous customers flock around! In this heat too....with fiercely hot grills in his face all the time as he deftly carves, chops, wraps and rolls shwarma after shwarma!!! Not for us tonight...full fledged St Georges Day meal......there's some of us around still!!!

As we passed his stand tonight on our way back from a Karama walk to the dry cleaners he posed for a photo!

Now here's a cool guy!!....in an airconditioned shop!

How he keeps track of all the garments that come in, is and will ever be a mystery to me!! His floor is usually strewn with them, shelves piled high and counter equally as congested! Tonight I managed to catch the 'tidier' side of his business!

Is hip hop like that?

Would be careful saying it with these guys around but even looking at the window dressing....its just a riot!!!
