Orang utans
This was a wow morning. Interesting ride into Kuching and on to Semenggoh with the Americans. They are journalists and the daughter is looking at unis in Ireland and Scotland so interesting chat.
We got to the wildlife rehabilitation centre at 9 in time for the feeding. As we arrived there were 2 orang utan making there way up the path. later I got lots of other shots of them in the trees but I liked this one best. We really were that close to them and the young one was definitely posing. The older one is the matriarch. She is 47 and this is her third child. later we saw another younger one with a baby. It took ages for them to show up and we stood, dripping, in the jungle. But it was worth it. Orange people ('orang' being people).
It was all over by 10.15 and we went back to Kuching. The family went off to find a hotel for the night before thir return to Brunei and I went for an explore. Some oif that time was trying unsuccessfully to find free wifi to check money. I had coffee, a boat trip, lunch in a wee Chinese place, a beer and then back on the Damai shuttle. Kuching is a lovely place. very charming beside the water front and very low rise and laid back, not at all like KL.
It was hot and sunny too, also not like KL.
Back at Nanga Damai the English couple had succeeded in their mountain climb - about 5 hours. Not for me! I slogged it down to the nearest food in the dark with the sounds of the jungle. "Green Paradise' cafe. It's not actually that far but seemed a long way away I was so tired.
Ok meal and then a walk back, a beer and bed. I sleep with the blinds up so I can hear the sounds and see the view as it gets light. The cicadas and the birds and the other sounds of night in the jungle.
