Happy bank holiday!
I think I'm turning into a bit of a hermit. As it gets nearer summer and the days get longer, brighter and warmer, I find myself more and more reluctant to venture beyond my driveway.
This isn't a mystery to me, I know exactly why. All of the above brings people spewing from every available direction - everyone is with their partner, their family, their friends, their dog, you name it. And I am invariably alone. During the winter, many of these folk are curled up together indoors, so I can go about my merry way without feeling like I'm the only person in the whole, entire world who doesn't have some sort of significant other.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that this lifestyle is my choice (well, sort of) and is even envied by some. Perhaps it is enviable, but it's also lonely at times.
Anyway, pity parties are a dull way to pass the time, so I tootled off into Selby today to have a wander round. I had downloaded a walking tour of signs and symbols on shopfronts in the town and, whilst the cholera plaque outside the Abbey isn't part of it, I walked past a couple of times. Selby was packed, the market was on and it was a lovely, bright afternoon. I really enjoyed my walk round, looking out the Market Cross, the Blackamore Head pub which apparently refers to North African slaves and various instances of the Selby swans, which celebrate the founding of Selby Abbey in 1069. All very interesting and nice to be a tourist in my own town :-)
Back to work tomorrow...
