Upper Aira Beck
I decided today that I would have some more practice at taking "silky" water shots so I headed off to Aira Beck.
What a disappointment! The part I was going to used to be approached across a field, so few people used the path the grass was short but not worn through to mud. I was greeted by a four foot wide gravel" motorway running across the field. To make matters worse they have built a bridge that nearly equals the bridge on the River Kwai (well you could almost drive across it). So what was a nice quiet remote spot has had the ambiance changed. Fair enough there weren't the crowds that you meet at the main falls, but it is now difficult to take shots without the path or bridge featuring in them. This shot is one of the few I managed without the bridge showing.
Some of you may be wondering about the name Aira Beck, Aira is a corruption from the norse eyrr, a gravel bank which is a reference to Aira point where the beck enters the lake. The 65 foot falls lower down known as Aira Force are so named (again derived from norse ) from fors for waterfall.
