Okinawa Day 6
Last full day at the beach house, and it was a busy one. Started the morning off with some preparation for a BBQ later in the day, then the students got into their groups for last preparation and then presentation of their skits. Everyone did wonderfully and clearly had a good time doing it. Laughter was in high supply.
After this all the students and other staff left for paragliding or to ride a glass-bottom boat. The other teacher and I decided we needed some time off, so for the first time we got a few hour break during the week; just us in the house with no students. Finally I got what I wanted to do during this trip; Set a chair on the porch looking at the sea, grab a couple of beers and fruity drinks and put on the chill music (three Nujabes albums in a row). It was as good as I imagined it would be, and I felt refreshed and ready to go for the BBQ when the students got home.
That BBQ was amazing. On the beach with beef, pork and chicken, all prepared and grilled wonderfully by Fernando, Elaine, and Junior. Add in a vinaigrette made fo olives, tomatoes, onions and green peppers prepared by Diogo and Marcia, and you have a very happy me.
To finish the night, we got out some fireworks and I set up my camera facing the house for some light-writing. We took about an hour trying to get a cool hadoken shot off, but didn't quite make it. Instead, we have the fireworks version of a shot we did earlier in the week. Jon and Gabi had the idea to trace around her while she was just standing there. That time we only had flashlights, so it was cool, but I always like the more organic nature of fireworks. The way the sparks fly off just add an extra element. I suggested the idea, and thanks to Emily for being brave enough to let Junior trace around her with flame.
