Gong gong
Today my mum, my sister in law, Milla, Ella and I went to see The Lion King on stage at Bradford Alhambra. Well, wow. What an amazing experience. I don't think any words I could put in this space could do it justice. I cried, I laughed, I gasped, I shivered. It was simply tremendous. All the way home Ella kept saying that it was the best thing she has ever seen. And I agree with her.
The reason I say Gong Gong is because The Lion King is not just a great movie or musical to me. It's Milla's 'thing'. She was obsessed with it as a baby. Her first sentence was "gong gong [lion king] on". She made us watch it morning, noon and night. Every day. Then, when she went from infants into juniors at school, her leaving assembly theme was, remarkably, Gong Gong. As you can imagine, I was a quivering wreck of (pregnant) tears at the end of it. So, when I hear that native African chant of Circle of Life it does something to me. I can't help but shed a tear. Or ten. Especially when a massive elephant puppet/costume comes bounding onto the stage. This afternoon was one of those memories. One which will stay with you for ever.
Oh, then my dad and I cooked a cracking, if not somewhat hot, tandoori for tea.
