An open or shut gate?

I was going to blip a view of the old Royal High School in Edinburgh where we park up for a few minutes at the terminus of the X62 but then I remembered that yesterday's blip was in Midlothian and as this journal is called Border Tails, I thought today's should be from the Borders.

I'm not really sure if this gate is open or shut and whom or what it keeps in or out but it just happened to catch my eye when I was sitting waiting my time at a bus stop.
