The Piwakawaka

This was one of those moments. For years I've been after the fantail in flight and have a way to do it now. Any of you who have tried to do it will know they move so fast changing direction constantly. If you get one small in the frame , all good, but to get one sized well in the frame. This is over 3000 pixels after cropping , so excellently good. The technique is simple, you just have to be ready and persistent. This wee guy visits my office window every day to see if theres a feed to be had. So it's a balance between cleaning the window enough to clear the view but leaving it sufficiently not clean for there to be bugs for him to find. Forget auto focus, even with the 70-200 on a D800 theres no chance. Manual focus and let him dance in and out of the focus plane - and keep shooting - every day.
