Down the Grand Union
Believe it or not, Birmingham has more canals than Venice. When you consider Brum's industrial past it's not that surprising, but it's still a bit hard to conceive. Granted, the canals in Brum don't look like those in Venice, but hey, that's what you get when you have a patchwork of industry lining them.
This is the Grand Union Canal that goes to London, some 120 miles away. I often cycle down partway and change at the Stratford-Upon-Avon canal to spend a relaxing day in Shakespeareland, but as my bike's still making its way back from Brussels that was definitely out for today. Instead, I opted for a walk and some photos of graffiti under the bridges.
