Turner was better at lighting...

We went for a drive all around central London today - covered the West End, the Strand, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St Paul's, Holborn, Bank and Fleet Street... My grandmother loved it, and I got to soak it all in, and feel very self-conscious sitting in a car amidst the crowds in Trafalgar Square! Somewhere along the way we stopped at the Tate Britain which I think has been done up beautifully, as has the art work been curated (apparently it's been the source of much dispute!). We were actually there almost at this time exactly, two years ago. Same setting, but I feel quite different. I remember is distinctly though, with help from the pictures on my then brand new phone. Two of my favourite Turner paintings, if you're interested: Interior of a Great House (made me think of Gatsby in all the forms I know), and The Parting of Hero and Leander. I love Greek mythology and the romantic, tragic images it inspired in artists hundreds of years later.

Unfortunately I have little control over the exposure on this camera and in the editing process there is no differentiating between the light and the shadows. Even more unfortunately, the light is made whiter when the black and white "effect" is applied... Still, I'm happy with my composition, and when you have daylight and a beautiful city, the subject can never be too shabby.
