Life's tangled skein

Polmont Station

I had a journey into Glasgow today and took the train. This view is of Polmont Station.

The green road bridge is quite interesting. Built, according to the plaque in the middle, by Robert Melvin engineering of Alloa in 1898, and today's trains get under it with about six inches to spare. But the line is to be electrified, meaning overhead gantries to carry power for the new rolling stock...

So the bridge will have to be raised. Already work is being done on another nearby bridge to raise it; the road closed in February and won't open until September. But lifting the bridge in the picture will be even more disruptive, as this is a very busy road.

I'm not looking forward to the time when it's being worked on!
