1st May Day 2014

Today is International Workers Day or Labour Day where all workers of the world down tools and take a day off from the sweat and toil. Unfortunately nowadays it is usually observed on the first Monday of May, the first of two bank holidays in May and falls this year on Monday 5th May. This is probably to give people a long weekend, so it feels more like a holiday. I still think the Labour Day of 1st May should be observed allowing workers choice to stay at home and celebrate with their comrades from around the world. Today in London there was a march to celebrate 1st May like many cities around the world. In Glasgow we will have our celebration on Sunday 4th May (which is already a day off for most workers). Happy International Workers Day - enjoy the long weekend and hopefully to see you at the march on Sunday. Let us not forget it is also Beltane - the official start of Spring.
