(dis)Orientation
I started an Advanced Black and White Photography course tonight at Leeds College of Art. It's entirely film based and I really wanted to get back into a darkroom and have a project (other than blipfoto, which is more of a way of life/mania/demonstration of insanity) that would focus my creative energies (if that doesn't sound too pretentious). So I was a little bit nervous and excited and slightly confused. I was hanging around waiting for the course to start and I was directly underneath these stairs leading around the outside of the college building and that became my blip. It looked a bit otherworldly to me at the time and reflected my disorientation (see, too late, he's already sounding pretentious).
Anyway, the upshot of the course is, there are five of us and we have ten weeks to produce a body of work for an exhibition (on a small scale) in probably two or more venues using black and white film. Any camera/format we like. The project is based on inspiration we can draw from the book The Uses of Enchantment by Bruno Bettelheim. As a group we have very little ideas at present, myself, I have some but they're not fully formed yet. We do need to get out and shoot some film and get on with printing it next week. Hopefully we'll come together as a group a bit more next week and have some ideas. Anyone fancy being a model? Happy days.
