A job to be done
The beef cattle are still in their yards as the ground is too wet. They would only tread the grass until it sinks into a muddy mess. T and B have a lot to do. Many of the grass fields must be re-fenced inside the hedges to keep the cattle in. A favourite pastime of theirs is to lean into the hedges in bad weather until they weaken and then the cattle can push through and get out, but if there is enough grass and the weather is dry this does not usually happen. The animals are good at jumping fences too! One year three young ones got out and bolted across across several fields, over the railway line and on into the next county! It took us a couple of weeks to catch them. Once found we had to take a bucket of cake to feed them everyday so they got used to us and in the end we were able to load them into a box and drive them back.
