The Marble Bridge (not!)
This bridge over the Frederiksholm Canal formed the main entrance to the palace, building was completed in 1744. It is made of sandstone covered with medallion decorations by the sculptor Louis August le Clerc. The pavements were paved with Norwegian marble, hence the name the Marble Bridge! The roadway was paved with cobblestones and, if there has been one complaint about this lovely city, it is the amount of cobbles everywhere. To avoid them I have been walking on the cycle ways probably to the annoyance of the 36,000 (and that's the official figure) bikes on the road on any one day here!
This is but a minor point in what has been a memorable, fun and sunny time here in this wonderful, wonderful city of Copenhagen!
