Back again after 19 days in Malawi

Young people get a very bad press. I suppose we all realise that bad news sells papers and keeps the millions of minutes of airtime full with some kind of negativity.

These are people who never get a mention. They are DIT students who worked and begged for enough money to pay their way and all expenses to spend nineteen days with the poorest of the poor in one of the poorest countries on earth.

No Irish Aid funding, in fact no funding at all, no expenses and no credit from anyone.
They journeyed with the most neglected and mostly forgotten village women and children, bringing hope, inspiration, a little education and lots of challenge. They were where few white people go, bringing themselves and their hearts, their warm Irish spirit and their positivity. They gave no handouts, but alot of encouragement.
They did teacher training for our 37 preschools, worked on the farm, helped install wells, had great craic with everyone they met AND made a huge impact.
These guys are the REAL DEAL and it was so wonderful to geeat them at the Airport this morning after their 30 hour journey.
They had a ball and we were so sad to have missed out, BUT Liam and Elaine slotted-in seamlessly. Of course after seven visits they are like Malawians. Not to mention them being part of the first DIT Easter Volunteering group to go to Malawi seven years ago!!

Liam, Elaine and Aisling had to take time off work to do this gig. We are sp proud of then and thankful on behalf of all the lives they touched.

With young people like this, Ireland has a great future, if all the whingers would only get off the stage.
