People on a Bridge

Tornadoes

The day begun quite wonderfully, with HD and a small team of students (landscape architecture mostly, plus one graphic designer and one civil engineer) receiving an award from the Environmental Protection Agency for their project for a sustainable plaza in the center of the campus. They won a second place in a national competition; it was a nice to-do, and everybody was rather happy.

The day ended in a scary fashion, with massive tornadoes ripping through the surrounding area. On person died, many were injured. Many homes, and public buildings were destroyed. Our little town was spared, though we are not out of the woods yet. More storms seem to be coming our way in the upcoming hours... Keep your fingers crossed; tonight is quite scary.

So far, our water redirection measures held; so far the basement has not been flooded despite massive rainfall in the past few hours. We will see what happens during the night...

I took this image earlier, at the construction site at the landscape architecture department courtyard which HD is designing/building with his students. The twirls make me think of a tornado.
