Going up or going down?

When there were trams in Glasgow this was one of the cries that the Clippies would shout out. I love it. I think it's a philosophy for life.

You've got tae get on tae get aff. There's no birth without death. No up without down; no right without left. No light without darkness. No heaven without hell. We need one thing to appreciate, to get a grip on the other.
If we can hold these dualistic thoughts in our nappers at the same time then each step would be a resplendent one. We would carry the riches of existence through the day. Like a King or Queen being carried aloft in the finest panoply. We would get on. We would experience.

It's a difficult, if not impossible, ecstasy to maintain. And who wants to have an infinity of ecstasy? That sounds like hell. But if you don't get off, you can't get on. And if you get on you have to get off. Etc... Life is a ride. But you have to get on. Time for me to get on. Next destination....
