Not too far north...

Some years ago we stayed in a beautiful cottage on a quinta (wine growing estate) in Portugal. We had our own courtyard garden full of trees, including a heavily laden quince. It was the first time I had come across the fruit.

I was very keen to plant a quince of my own when we returned home but it took me some time to find a young tree and I was uncertain how it would fare in my garden (according to my Internet source they grow as far north as York so we were just on the northernmost boundary). Last year we had a few spring blossoms and one small hard fruit in the autumn. But this year there seems to be an abundance of blossom, so who knows how it will perform...
