Behind the beach there is a row of pretty high young dunes, grown with this dune grass that can wave so nicely in the wind. Behind that there is a pretty wide area of older, lower dunes with a totally different vegetation, which you see here. In between you see lots of flat ponds and puddles now, due to a lot of rain. During summer it will all disappear. The Siuslaw River flows through this area which is bordered by another row of very high dunes, with very little vegetation on top. There are even moving dunes that reach the Highway 101 and have to be pushed back on a regular basis.

Thank you so much for all your kind comments and especially for an answer to my question. I think it was unanimous: the whole animal in this case was better than just the head. What made me ask was that while I was uploading and looking more and more at the picture , the body seemed so disproportionally big in comparison to the head.
