frazzled

Beneath the smooth skin,
Nerves writhe, sinews are exposed,
Raw in the chill air.

After the trauma of the past two days, we set off to collect our daughter from hospital in London and bring her home to Sussex for some tender loving care.

The traffic was an absolute nightmare ... our nerves were as frayed and frazzled as this building.

But we collected her and brought her home at last.
