Spurtle and breadboard

Both very old. Belonged to my gran.

The B on the BREAD board is only just visible now. I remember marveling at it when I was little. It was all engraved and stood proud of the wooden base. I wonder how many slices of bread had to be cut to make it disappear...

In most homes the spurtle was mainly used to stir porridge. However, sometimes they had a secondary function too. Occasionally they could be used to "encourage" wayward children to behave...
