Angkor Wat

We'd decided to have both a tuk tuk driver (Mr Poav who collected us from the airport) and an English speaking guide, Rom. So after a panic about where I'd misplaced keys we set off to the Angkor Wat archaelogical park. At one time it must have been quite mystical to approach it through jungle but now it is a good road a 15 minute tuk tuk drive to the ticket office - $40 for 3 days. The place was crowded, tuk tuks, coaches, cars.

We spent the whole day there, by passing Angkor Wat itself s it is busy in the morning and starting with the amazing faces at Bayon. The best temples we felt were the ones that have not been fully reclaimed from the jungle like Ta Prohm. We had lunch in a Khmer restaurant overlooking the lake (more great food) and the more temples in the afternoon. Having Rum with us was a great. He gave us loads of information and made sure we saw the best spots.

It was hot, and steamy and J found it difficult to ignore the kids selling postcards and other stuff, 'dollaar, dollaar', was the cry. I am much more hard hearted.

We got back to La Niche mid afternoon and the plan was to go back for sunset but after a swim and a relax by the pool it clouded over so no sunset. Instead we walked back over the river from Wat Bo to the town for a meal and then back across the river to the other Night Market - more arts and crafts. J bought a few things before we tuke tuked back.

Tomorrow no temples but the floating village on the lake.
