Off on an adventure
There are few things more exiting to a mainland dweller like me than getting on a Calmac ferry in Oban and setting off to a new Island.
Today it was the annual wild camping trip with Dave and the dogs. Me and Dave went to school together (a few years ago now), and have managed to stay in touch. Dave still lives down in leafy Berkshire and has been coming up for the last 3 years. Previously we've gone for Mull and Ardnamurchan and this year it's Colonsay. We seem to get lucky with the weather every year!
The ferry trip was amazing - spent the evening on deck watching the wild and beautiful southern hebrides .. Jura, Mull, Colonsay and all, open up in front of us.
Once landed and after a slight detour, we got the perfect pitch on our own private beach, 15 minutes walk from the pub. After 3 pints of Colonsay Ale - brewed on the island - we found our way back to the tent under the starriest sky in the northern hemisphere. Dave got up for a pee in the night and raved about the orange full moon ("like a jaffa cake"). I opened my eyes at 6am to see the sun rising over our beach....
