People on a Bridge

Pick-Up Sticks

I turned in a massive 4-paper compilation today as a grand finale to this semester's advanced developmental psychology class. It felt good.

I had a few revelations in this class. One of them is that everything in a person's life can be attributed to the GxE scheme, or a combination of genes and environment. You may be genetically predisposed to something or other, but never be in circumstances where it materializes. On the other hand, you may be not predisposed to something at all, but end up with it due to circumstances. All this can be positive or negative...

My second revelation was this: development, hopefully, leads to having your shit together. I mean it on the brain level: maturation and mastery of the executive function, or the part of the brain that is the traffic controller of our existence. You - good choice, you stay. You-bad choice, you go. You- good choice, but the same as the other one, so you can go, too, etc... No need to lash out. No need for egotism. Only calmness and kindness...

I am very tired, but also much more relaxed than I was yesterday. It feels good to be done with this monster.
