A sneak preview

This morning's early wander around Leeds brought the sight of this five metre tall sculpture being placed in/on its new home outside Leeds Art Gallery.

A new commission by Leeds-born artist Thomas Houseago for the Yorkshire Festival 2014, the sculpture will be launched to the public on the morning of 30 April. This is the first new work that the internationally-renowned sculptor has shown in Yorkshire, and is directly inspired by his home city.

'Yet to be titled (Large Walking Figure)' depicts a gargantuan, striding figure made from tufcal plaster and iron, reflecting the frenetic bustle of the city’s urban landscape. He looks out over the city’s busiest thoroughfare, The Headrow, which is also the location of the start of the Tour de France Grand Départ on 5 July.

An interesting start to my day. Happy Friday to you all!
