Really really old shells
Out at low tide with J today, specifically to see the rocks that fell from the cliffs after the recent stormy weather.
J has all the factual numbers - he even has a little hammer for cracking into fossils which he bought on Amazon. Nerd.
Me, I'm not so good with that stuff, but I do find it pretty amazing that all those razor clams all dumped themselves in the same spot and then other stuff was dumped on top of it - until there was 60 plus feet of stuff on top of it - and then this chunk fell off and split and here they are, embedded in rock.
They haven't seen air for a very very long time.
