The Cactus Garden

We hired a car today and visited the north of the island. We visited the lava tunnels at Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. The kids, Carys in particular, were really taken with the caves and how they were made. Carys has decided to do her next class assembly on the volcanos and lava of Lanzarote.

On the way back we stopped at the Cactus Gardens which were the last thing that César Manrique designed before his untimely death in 1992. I am not much of a cactus fan, but actually the garden was lovely. Both children liked the opportunity to pretend to be tour guides, leading us around the various levels before we almost got blown away at the windmill. We had to recover with the obligatory ice cream before heading back.
