workhouse

This fine grade II listed Jacobean style building was built in 1840 as a workhouse. Since 1930 it has been owned by Derbyshire County Council and on the formation of the NHS became Babington Hospital. Like many old building it is difficult to up keep and its future as a hospital is in doubt.

I pass it everyday to and from work and always give it a glance and admire it. On the way home tonight it was dull and about to rain again. I noticed there were no cars parked in front of it, a rare event, so I seized the blip opportunity.

I remember in my own home town the workhouse became a hospital and my Nan just refused to go there, like many others it had been a struggle in her life to avoid the place and they weren't about to concede later in life.
